In Italy, as in more developed countries, there is a progressive lengthening of the average life span; the Italian population over 65 represents, according to recent ISTAT data, 22.6% of the total population.<\/p>\n

If we live longer, institutions are called upon to face new needs and challenges related to the quality of life of elderly people who must be counted among those particularly deserving of protection.<\/p>\n

The uncertainty of the future due to the possible occurrence of illnesses, or in any case physical or psychic limitations and impediments inherent to age, raises the need to find ways and means to ensure a peaceful and dignified old age.<\/p>\n

To these people, the National Council of Notaries and the Consumers’ Associations dedicate the 15th Guide for Citizens, to help them identify property solutions suited to their needs with the instruments that the law has made available to them.<\/p>\n

The following legal institutions will be covered in this Guide: annuity contract for life annuities, maintenance contract \/ annuity contract for maintenance \/ annuity contract, donation contract with a duty of care, purchase of bare ownership with reservation of usufruct, purchase of ownership with reservation of the right of abode, and also, life mortgage loan, trust; brief mention will be made of wills.<\/p>\n
